For one hundred thirty years, Emmaus Baptist Church has been a positive force for good in Poquoson and southern York County, Virginia. Our theme is “Making Jesus Unavoidable in Poquoson and Tabb.” We want everyone to know and experience the love of God through his son Jesus Christ. Through wars, depressions, and hurricanes Emmaus Baptist has stood by its community to provide both spiritual and physical support. The generosity of our people has always been a testimony to the saving grace of our Lord and Savior.

Worship is the first priority of every Christian. Worship is also the first priority of our church. We provide two opportunities to worship on Sunday mornings. At 8:30am we praise God with praise songs and a relaxed worship format. At 11:00am we worship with hymns following the traditional Southern Baptist worship style. Nursery and children’s church are provided at both services.

Our Christian Education programs provide opportunities for all ages to learn the Bible for themselves. On Sunday morning we offer an age graded Sunday school that spans infants to centenarians. Sunday evenings provide additional opportunities for children and youth to be involved in creative arts ministries. There are men’s, women’s, and youth Bible studies on Wednesday evening and missions education for children.

Emmaus Baptist Church supports the mission efforts of the Peninsula Baptist Association (PBA), the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV), and the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). We also sponsor Meshack Sinxezi, an indigenous church planter in the Free State of South Africa. Other ministries we support include: the Seafarers Center of Newport News, Operation Christmas Child, PBA WorkCamp, Poquoson Helping Hands, Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief Operations, and the local food pantry/thrift store.

We understand that every church is not for every person, but there is something for almost everyone at Emmaus Baptist Church.
